the big book of the little manhattans

This is a book I made last semester for my surface design class. The shape on the front, and on each gray page, is Manhattan, each page features a different neighborhood of Manhattan. The name of the neighborhood is on the left side of the spread, while the Manhattan shape and embroidered neighborhood are on the right. It is bound with ribbons and there are 25 different neighborhoods. The names of the neighborhoods were applied to the fabric with a solvent transfer process. It took a really long time, originally i wanted to do all the neighborhood but i ran out of time, so there are half. I have the set of pages for the other half in my closet, hopefully i can make another book sometime.

lets say you find a box, and at first you think its a regular box, kind of just like most. then you realize that its not and you think its a pretty good box, a special box, and you decide to keep it around and you start filling it with things. things that are both tangible and intangible, big things, little things, things that you like, dont like, things you wouldnt put in any other boxes, because you feel like they belong in this box in particular, and you think that this box can keep them safe. imagine the box is full of these things you willingly put there because of the way you felt about the box and because you liked the idea of having a box to put special things in;

and then, imagine you lost it. how does it feel? you are mad at yourself for loosing it, but you are mad at it for going away also, mad at it for taking all your stuff with it without telling you where it was going, or what it was doing or if your stuff would still be safe with it. and all you can do is wonder about the box and the things it took away from you when it left.

i want my box back.
